Dr. Miha Štajdohar, CTO and co-founder of Genialis, was honored to take part in a high-level roundtable on AI policy and innovation. Held on June 10, 2025, at the historic Jable Castle as part of the 4th National Conference on Artificial Intelligence, the event centered on positioning Europe at the forefront of global AI leadership.
The roundtable, titled “Action Plan for the AI Continent and the AI Act: Shaping the EU’s Global Role in Artificial Intelligence”, brought together top minds from industry, academia, and policy. Miha joined the conversation with Dr. Lucilla Sioli, Director of the EU AI Office, alongside other leaders from Slovenia and across the EU.
Europe’s AI action plan: 5 key areas of focus
The discussion addressed the five key pillars of the European Commission’s AI Continent Action Plan:
- Building robust data and compute infrastructure for AI
- Improving access to high-quality data
- Driving adoption in strategic sectors
- Strengthening AI talent
- Making regulation more startup and innovation-friendly
With over a decade of experience applying machine learning to life sciences, we’ve seen how policy decisions ripple through research, development, and clinical care. The roundtable created space to reflect on how the AI Act and Action Plan could shape future innovation — not just in tech, but also in biotech, pharma, and diagnostics.
During the discussion, Dr. Štajdohar emphasized the critical need for equitable access to medical data as a foundation for research, innovation, and ultimately, better outcomes for patients. Ensuring secure, fair, and responsible data access will be essential to realizing the promise of AI in healthcare across Europe and beyond.
